I am guessing that if you are reading this blog it is because you are interested in Art in some way or another. Maybe you are looking for inspiration, a piece of artwork for your wall (pop over to my shop for a great range of originals or prints) or maybe you already paint or would love to learn to paint. Whatever reason you are here – Welcome!
I love looking at other artists work and often wonder what was their inspiration and how they construct their pictures. But I do find a lot of artists keep their cards close to their chest as they don’t want you to copy their ideas. Now I am quite open about how I construct my Freestyle paintings – because I want you to know! I want you to have a go and discover for yourself how much fun it is. Creating anything is so good for our soul. It is uplifting, gives us a sense of pride and a new found confidence in our abilities.
I want you to say “Yes, I could do that stage, and that and that”. I want you to look and realise that it isn’t rocket science, but to see that it is a series of fun manageable steps, steps that with a bit of guidance you feel you could take!
But I ask you to keep an open mind. You can see it is made up of many layers and this is where the beauty of this style of painting comes in to its own. If you can focus on the small steps (layers), before long you will have your own unique painting.
Now take a peek at this very basic first layer. It really is just a riot of colours and shapes. It was also a lot of fun to do. I took it out into the garden and splattered some paint on as well as dripping watery paint straight from the bottle!
At this stage, I really don’t know what the painting will look like when it is finished. I have no idea – how liberating is that! All I know is that it will be what it wants to be!
So there you have it – how I create my Freestyle paintings. If you would like to learn more, I have put together an E-Course called Freestyle Art – Painting for your Soul! It is full of tips and techniques and high quality video lessons which take you through the process of me painting a picture from start to finish.I continue adding doodles of painting in layers. If I see an image emerge and I like it, I will go with it and add some detail and refine the shape.
Hear what others are saying about it – “I’m doing this
