I have been trying to navigate this whole social media thing to connect with people who I think may resonate with what I am offering. It is quite a minefield out there, you know!
I have followed a couple of people who I really resonate with, but there seem to be a whole load of sharks swimming around ready to sucker you in. I have found it quite depressing at times because they lure you in to their sites with great promise of inside knowledge but when you invest your time you find that they are really only after your money, and usually rather a lot of it, I might add. Then there are those that won’t even let you access their page and hidden wonders (!) unless you sign up to their newsletters, blog or whatever else.
I am not interested in this side of social media. I don’t want volumes of traffic to my site in the hope that I will make some sales. I want to connect with those who have a genuine interest in what I have to offer (Art, learning to paint in a liberating way and a sense of friendship and community). I want people to sign up to my newsletters and blog, because they are interested in what I have to say. I want people to buy my art , whether it is an original or a card, because it means something to them. I want to know that they will look at it often and it will remind them of what they need to know. I want to build up a community where there is a meeting of hearts and a sharing of being creative. I want to send out gratitude and hope. I want to inspire people to be themselves (sounds easy, but really is not in a world where others want us to be something else) by connecting back to themselves.
I feel that I have been given the gift of my love of painting and have developed Freestyle Painting to share it with those who are looking for it right now. I love that saying ” when the student is ready , the teacher will appear”. Well, I have been the student many times and now I want to be your teacher if you are ready.
I am busy writing my new E-Courses which are a way for me to share Freestyle painting, how to do it , tips and techniques as well as videos of the whole process – start to finish! I feel this is the right way for me to go as social media and the internet is pretty amazing and awesome when used in this way. I may still do some studio and travel teaching again in the future, but as I share my life with my husband, grown up children, foster children, friends , family , Ottie (older tabby cat), Suki (new kitten) and two guinea pigs I am kept busy enough at the moment!
By reflecting on this is the main thing I have learnt is I need to stop looking at what every one else is doing or proclaiming I need to be doing and just follow my heart and what feels right for me.
